On January 12, 2022, the university presented its 10-year Master Plan draft to the state Board of Regents. The board approved the plan, allowing the university to proceed with planning and project development. While master plans often change over time, the following projects are planned between 2022 and 2032:
Academics
- Renovate the Old Art Building for the Graduate College, including Center for the Book and the School of Planning and Public Affairs
- Modernize Hardin Library for health program research support and Environmental Health and Safety offices
- Modernize Gilmore Hall for Administration and the President's Office
- Modernize MacLean Hall for Computer Science and Statistics
- Modernize Jessup Hall for Sociology, Math, and Geography
- Modernize Macbride Hall
- Sell the Jefferson Building downtown
- Renovate the Old Museum of Art for Dance
- Raze Halsey and replace IMU Parking Ramp
- Construct new academic facility on the west side of the Iowa River for Speech and Hearing Sciences, Physical Therapy, and Health and Human Physiology
- Expand the College of Business across Clinton St.
- Upgrade and repurpose Calvin Hall
- Purchase the University Capitol Centre and repurpose the 2nd floor
- Modernize the Main Library
Student Life
- Construct four new cultural houses and a Multicultural Center in Hubbard Park
- Raze Grand Ave. Court houses
- Move Student Health to the IMU
- Raze Westlawn
- Replace Field House
Medical
- Construct new Inpatient Tower on the northwest side of the hospital
- Move water tower to Lot 75
- Construct new Research Facility
- Construct new Ambulatory Care Facility
- Add parking structure to Lot 43
- Continue work on North Liberty Hospital
Athletics
- Construct new Wrestling Training Facility
- Construct new Gymnastics Facility
